COGNOS SCENARIO WINS INDUSTRY AWARD: COGNOS BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE MINING TOOL IS NAMED TO CROSSROADS 99 A-LIST

Cognos, a leading strategic business intelligence vendor, announced that Scenario was awarded the Crossroads 99 A-List Award for Data Mining. Scenario automates the discovery and ranking of critical factors and exposes hidden relationships within corporate data. An intuitive, cost-effective tool, Scenario allows a breadth of users -- from statisticians to business analysts, planners and other corporate knowledge workers -- easy access to sophisticated data analysis.

Over the past six years, the Crossroads A-List Awards have recognized companies that deliver high quality products that positively impact their customer's business. The products on the Crossroads 99 A-List were determined by the analysts of Open Systems Advisors, Inc., after reviewing vendors' products, services, and strategies, then conducting in-depth interviews with experienced customers.

"Cognos is delighted its customers and independent analysts selected Scenario for this honor," said Alan Rottenberg, Cognos' senior vice president of Marketing and Business Strategy. "The Crossroads A-List Award is the only industry award based on interviews with customers who are actually deploying products in mission-critical business situations. The honor is further affirmation of Cognos' position as a leader in the business intelligence marketplace."

Rottenberg continued, "This is another in a long line of industry awards for Cognos business intelligence tools. No other vendor can provide its customers with such a complete set of award-winning products." Cognos packages Scenario with Impromptu and PowerPlay as part of the very successful COGNOSuite. Previous Cognos awards include Infoworld's Product of the Year for Impromptu, the PC Week Corporate IT Excellence Award for Data Analysis/Decision Support for PowerPlay and a Datamation's Product of the Year in the Data Warehousing Tools category for Scenario.

"With Scenario, data mining techniques can be put in the hands of line-of-business manager," said Nina Lytton, president of Open Systems Advisors, Inc. "Customers rave about Scenario's interface. It places very sophisticated statistical techniques into a format that is easy to view and understand."

Cognos recently introduced and shipped Scenario 2.0. The new version of Cognos' award-winning business mining tool features seamless integration with Cognos' Impromptu and PowerPlay, as well as enhanced analysis capabilities such as explain, zoom, and categorical data targets. The integration provides users with the most powerful and complete business intelligence solution for the desktop.

Scenario 2.0 for Windows 95 or Windows NT requires a minimum of an IBM-compatible PC, 8 MB of RAM and 20 MB hard drive space. Scenario is available immediately for $695, or with PowerPlay and Impromptu as part of COGNOSuite for $1295.
