Pharsight Corporation, a leader in computer-assisted trial design (CATD) software and services announced the release of Pharsight Trial Designer 1.2. This new version of the software helps pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies bring drugs to market faster by assisting in the design of more efficient and cost-effective drug clinical trials. Industry experts estimate that delays in regulatory approval cost $1 to 2 million per day in lost revenues to pharmaceutical companies. Pharsight's enhanced software can dramatically improve the efficiency of clinical trials, the longest and most expensive stage of drug development.
Currently, 16 of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies and five of the top 11 biotechnology companies use Pharsight's modeling and design technology in their clinical development efforts. In addition, nine of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies utilize Pharsight's consulting services.
Pharsight Trial Designer 1.2 is compatible with version 6.12 of SAS software for Windows. Pharsight's collaboration with SAS Institute allows developers to streamline the process of planning a trial by facilitating visualization and analysis of simulated trial data. Pharsight Trial Designer 1.2's new SAS software user interface makes it easier for developers to run more powerful predictive functions such as survival analysis within the SAS software.
Survival analysis forecasts the effect of a drug on a human population. It estimates how the rate of these effects will compare to the normal rate without the influence of the experimental drug. Functioning as a facilitator to the SAS software, Pharsight Trial Designer 1.2 allows clinical development teams to transfer data into SAS software for survival analysis, and return to Pharsight Trial Designer's interactive format to review the analysis. By conducting survival analysis, drug developers gain access to key information about possible treatment outcomes, allowing them to plan a more effective clinical trial.

Pricing and Availability
Pharsight Trial Designer 1.2 is available immediately. The software license is priced at US$7,500 per client and US$20,000 for access over a company's network. There is an annual renewal fee equivalent to 30% of the yearly license.
