NEC Packages Server with Data-Warehouse Software

NEC Corp. began sales Tuesday of sets comprising its Express5800/120ma server and Canadian firm Cognos Inc.'s PowerPlay Server Web Edition data-warehousing software.

The set sells for 13.6 million yen, or about 30% cheaper than buying the products separately. As part of a sales campaign, NEC is offering an additional 36% discount on the set through March, bringing its price down to just 8.7 million yen.

The Express5800/120ma features a Pentium II 400MHz processor and 256MB of RAM. The server is compatible with databases such as Arbor Software Corp.'s Arbor Essbase and Oracle Corp.'s Oracle Express.
