Discoverer Viewer For the Web
ACTION ITEMS
Oracle Corp. has announced the general availability of Oracle Discoverer Viewer for the Web, a key component of Oracle's complete and integrated family of business intelligence products. Discoverer is Oracle's awardwinning ad hoc query, reporting and analysis tool designed by end users for end users. Oracle Discoverer Viewer for the Web uses the same industry leading interface to empower all users in the organization to leverage information in relational data warehouses, data marts and on-line transaction processing systems, with just a standard Web browser.
Oracle Discoverer Viewer for the Web is the only query and analysis tool in the market today with a 100% thin client, CORBA architecture, making it easy to deploy and providing unsurpassed scalability. It shares the same End User Layer as the Windows release of Discoverer, allowing companies to immediately deploy ad hoc reports to the Web without placing any additional demands on IS staff. With centralized software administration, installation and maintenance, the Web release of Discoverer can minimize the cost and complexity of providing ad hoc query and analysis capabilities to users throughout the enterprise. Discoverer Viewer for the web requires no Oracle software to be installed on the client. Client Java applets, which are dynamically loaded from a centralized server, allow the Discoverer viewer to be accessed via a simple web browser. As more users demand access to business information, companies can seamlessly add additional Discoverer Server modules to handle the increased workload.
Discoverer Viewer lets users access workbooks created with the Windows release of Discoverer and then drill down to analyze query results. It takes advantage of the same industry-leading ease of use and performance features as the existing Windows version of Discoverer, including query prediction, automatic summary redirection and the ResultsBase client cubic cache, which dramatically improves query performance. The net benefits to the organization are lower cost of ownership, greater user satisfaction and fast access to vital business information.
"Discoverer's Web release is the way to go for a large scale rollout," said Jim Bailer, VP Corporate Treasury, Bank of America. "Using Discoverer, we have the ability to quickly answer executive management's toughest business questions."
Oracle also announced that both the Windows and the Web releases of Discoverer now support direct access to Oracle(R) Applications data, using Applications user names, passwords and responsibilities. Additionally, Discoverer now supports multi-organization access control, allowing users to query and analyze data from any and all organizations to which they have been granted access. Together with Oracle's Business Intelligence System (BIS), Discoverer provides a complete query and analysis solution for Oracle Applications users.
"The introduction of Discoverer Viewer for the Web confirms Oracle's commitment to providing best-of-breed business intelligence products for the Internet," said Sohaib Abbasi, senior vice president of Tools Division at Oracle Corp. "Discoverer's market-leading ease of use and performance are now accessible to more users via the Web."
Organizations in today's fast paced business environment need easy to use, high performance, low cost solutions that deliver fast answers to tough questions. Oracle's integrated business intelligence tools -- comprised of Oracle Reports, Oracle Discoverer and Oracle Express -- provide best-of-breed technology to address the full spectrum of enterprise business intelligence needs, from production reporting and ad hoc querying to advanced analysis. This integrated solution offers superior ease of use and unmatched performance while reducing development and deployment costs.
