BellSouth Implements Switch Capacity Planning and
Management Solution

BellSouth has announced plans to implement a new Network Infrastructure Warehouse (NIW) solution, a telecommunications industry-specific data warehousing product that offers a complete view of a provider's switch network and its capabilities. The solution was developed for BellSouth by NCR Corporation.
By providing daily reports on the capacity of BellSouth's network and the availability of its services, the NIW solution will allow the Atlanta-based company to ensure it can offer its customers the products and services they want when they want them.
"The NIW solution gives us a near real-time view of our switch capacity," said Hal Henderson, BellSouth's assistant vice president for Network Operations project/process solutions. "In addition, NIW's messaging capability helps us avoid assigning traffic to heavy-use line units, thereby maximizing our network assets and improving the quality of service we provide our customers."
The solution is built on the foundation of NCR's Teradata relational database; NCR's WorldMark 5100 server with a 200-gigabyte disk; and best-in-class software from NCR partners Symbios, Platinum Technologies and Microsoft, as well as NCR Professional Services.

"Increased consumer demands on the network are mandating the need for analytical tools that suggest re-routing procedures and help with load balancing for line capacity control.
