Sybase Acquires Data Warehouse Network to Provide
Comprehensive Line Of Business Intelligence for
Key Vertical Markets; Solutions Provide Turn-Key Benefits
ACTION ITEMS
Sybase, Inc. has announced that it has acquired Data Warehouse Network, an Ireland-based, privately held provider of packaged, industry-specific business intelligence applications. The pre-defined, packaged offerings are designed to minimize the risk of data warehousing, reduce costs, and maximize application value. This transaction enables Sybase's Business Intelligence Division to provide customers with solutions that are customized to meet specific decision making requirements for a variety of vertical industries. The announcement further strengthens the company's commitment to providing customers with targeted, knowledgebased business solutions. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"As the data warehouse industry continues to evolve, organizations are demanding increasingly specialized business intelligence solutions," said John Chen, chairman, CEO and president of Sybase. "This acquisition is very significant for our customers. With these applications we are now truly able to extend beyond our traditional enterprise software offerings to provide line-of-business managers with industry-specific, knowledge-based solutions."
The acquisition of Data Warehouse Network will provide Sybase with a competitive advantage in the business intelligence arena by offering packaged applications for vertical industries. These include: retail banking, credit cards, insurance, telecommunications, healthcare, distribution, retail and utilities. Each package contains industry data models that reflect common treatments of industry specific criteria such as workflow, measurements, reporting requirements, terminology and data types as well as a common physical database design. Combined with Sybase Warehouse Studio, the company's leading data warehouse solution, these applications are the cornerstone of Sybase's new Business Intelligence Division.
"By merging these two leading-edge technologies, we are integrating proven, industry-specific business intelligence applications with our database-independent data warehouse infrastructure. This enables line-of-business managers to make strategic, knowledge-based decisions across database environments," said Eric Miles, senior vice president and general manager of the Business Intelligence Division.
"Sybase's robust data warehouse technology is a natural fit with DWN's packaged vertical applications," stated Sean Kelly, CEO and president, Data Warehouse Network. "Designed to meet the requirements of specific industries, our vertical expertise, combined with Sybase's technology, will provide a more powerful solution than industry-standard decision support systems," said Kelly.
Mr. Kelly will assume the role of director of European operations for Sybase's Business Intelligence Division, reporting to Mr. Miles.
