Sterling Software Extends Business Intelligence Database Support
ACTION ITEMS

Sterling Software Inc.'s Information Management Division, a leading provider of business intelligence and data warehousing software, has announced VISION:Webaccess 3.0 with added support for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 database system for Windows NT.

The addition of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 extends VISION:Webaccess' heterogeneous database support, which includes IBM DB2, Oracle and Sybase, providing increased access to corporate data for strategic decision making.

VISION:Webaccess is a Java-based, thin client computing solution for heterogeneous enterprise data access and analysis from any location at any time. Using wizard technology, VISION:Webaccess allows business users to point and click through queries; view and refresh previously created reports and charts; and create ad hoc reports for quick analysis.

"As businesses seek to gain a competitive edge, heterogeneous access to corporate data becomes vital from any location at any time," said Carole Morton, president of Sterling Software's Information Management Group. "We are pleased to expand VISION:Webaccess' database support to include Microsoft SQL Server 7.0."

VISION:Webaccess Features

The new release of VISION:Webaccess 3.0 allows end users to select Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or supported databases as the data source. With its persistent database connection, VISION:Webaccess eliminates the need to continuously reconnect to databases, producing quick and reliable data access. Furthermore, VISION:Webaccess requires no client installation, configuration or maintenance.

Written in 100 percent pure Java, VISION:Webaccess is a Web server-based tool running on a Microsoft Windows NT Server. To assure that end users working with standard Web browsers obtain the information they need from their companies' intranets, database access parameters can be set using Sterling Software's data management component, VISION:Clearmanage.

A single data administrator can configure and control an environment consisting of users of VISION:Webaccess and its companion product, VISION:Clearaccess, the powerful query and reporting tool for Windows and Macintosh users. Also, online help is available on every screen in VISION:Webaccess; therefore, no printed documentation is required, saving business travelers and remote users the inconvenience of carrying a manual. Everything they need to know is on-screen.

Wizard Technology for Reports and Charts

Using wizard technology, VISION:Webaccess provides greater flexibility in presenting and viewing reports and charts, making it possible for business users to create professional reports wherever they are located. VISION:Webaccess' point-and-click report and chart generations include multiple reporting formats, parameterized reports, customizable templates and two- and three-dimensional charts.

Business users can interactively resize, rotate and modify chart presentation. Dynamic OLAP drill-down can also be performed with VISION:Webaccess, which also has the ability to view pre-generated reports and charts and refresh screen images.
