Sybase Introduces New Generation of Adaptive Server IQ:
Full-Function SQL Database with IQ Multiplex Technology
for Maximum Scalability
ACTION ITEMS
Sybase, Inc. has announced Adaptive Server IQ12, a high-performance database server engineered specifically for decision support environments. Sybase Adaptive Server IQ12 is a full-function SQL engine that provides superior cost of ownership and granular scalability for decision support. With Adaptive Server IQ12, Sybase introduces new IQ Multiplexing technology, which enables scalability and VLDB support for enterprise warehouse environments of large numbers of users and concurrent queries. The result is a robust decision support engine that scales to handle the decision-making requirements of organizations from finely specialized departments to global business units.
"High-performance business intelligence applications are critical for companies looking to sustain a competitive advantage," said Eric Miles, senior vice president and general manager, Business Intelligence Division, Sybase, Inc. "Companies that need to analyze customer profitability, market penetration, sales effectiveness or operational efficiency will benefit from the speed and flexibility of Adaptive Server IQ12."
"In response to the growing need for a scaleable, economical way to examine large amounts of data, Sybase has enhanced Adaptive Server IQ with IQ Multiplex to provide customers with virtually unlimited scalability." said Jack Sweeney, vice president of Business Intelligence Division, Research & Development. "Sybase's IQ Multiplexing technology enables business intelligence solutions with the scalability and performance to accommodate increased numbers of users and concurrent queries."
"As business intelligence applications grow increasingly refined and companies become increasingly aggressive in their decision processing goals, Adaptive Server IQ12 offers the scalability and performance that organizations need to run the full spectrum of decision processing applications," said Colin White, Analyst at Database Associates International, Inc.
Highlights of Adaptive Server IQ12
Sybase Adaptive Server IQ12 extends performance, flexibility and scalability beyond the capabilities of traditional relational database technologies. Designed specifically for high-performance decision support, Adaptive Server IQ12 has unique column-based architecture with patented bit-wise indexing resulting in fast query speeds and linear VLDB scalability.
Features include:
Enterprise Performance
Open and Non-Proprietary
Low TCO Database Engine
Scalability
IQ Multiplexing -- Offers Virtually Unlimited Scalability
Sybase's IQ Multiplex delivers scalable, cost-effective, highavailability technology to handle hundreds of simultaneous queries at a fraction of the cost of a traditional relational database. IQ Multiplex provides near-linear scalability and can be scaled incrementally by adding NT and/or Unix IQ nodes, as well as mixed nodes to support growth in users and concurrent queries. Business intelligence applications such as marketing automation, fraud detection, cost analysis, activity-based-costing and the trend towards self-service solutions demand much larger databases, support for 100s to 1000s of users and very complex queries. Adaptive Server IQ12's new IQ Multiplex clustering techniques enable the new breed of decision support applications, where large number of users can perform ad-hoc queries against very large databases.
The rapid growth and increased volume of complex queries in the next generation of business intelligence applications requires new strategies and tools in data warehousing. By taking advantage of the data compression capabilities and fast query speeds of Sybase's Adaptive Server IQ, customers can efficiently process terabytes of detailed data, supporting hundreds of simultaneous queries, all on the largest databases.
Pricing & Availability
Sybase Adaptive Server IQ12 is scheduled to be available in March 1999 on IBM, HP, SUN and Compaq UNIX and on NT. The Multiplexing enhancement is scheduled to be available in May 1999. Pricing will be announced with the March general availability.
