Card issuers can now reduce the time and costs involved in fraud detection using Fair, Isaac and Company, Inc.'s fraud models at Total System Services, Inc. (TSYS). The new fraud models blend multiple modeling technologies, such as Fair, Isaac's INFORMPLUS and neural networks, to optimize precision in detecting different types of fraud, including counterfeit, mail theft fraud, lost/stolen, and account takeover. Boosting and data mining techniques were also applied to develop models that detect the first instance of suspicious account activity so that fraud can be stopped quickly. This will provide TSYS clients with reduced false positive incidences for better customer service, improved ability to catch more fraudulent accounts for increased productivity, and a reduction in total fraud losses for greater profitability.

"By using our innovative fusion modeling approach, we are able to capitalize on the strengths of multiple modeling technologies. That combined with new data mining techniques yields unprecedented predictive power," commented Al Sowden, senior vice president, Fair, Isaac. "Early results suggest that TSYS clients can expect to benefit greatly in all areas of measurement from these enhancements."

Fair, Isaac has provided TSYS with fraud detection models since 1993. The company's newest models incorporate new technologies to keep up with emerging fraud patterns. The new suite of models will be incorporated in TSYS fraud prediction solutions, such as TSYS CardGuard, its state-ofthe -art fraud detection system. The TSYS fraud solutions that contain these latest models are now available and active at more than 50 client sites.

"Fair, Isaac's modeling expertise using multiple predictive technologies and multiple data sources, coupled with TSYS' powerful fraud detection software, empowers our mutual clients with maximum fraud protection," said Skeet Rolling, vice president and director of fraud control services at TSYS.
