Sybase Introduces Comprehensive Line of Business
Intelligence Applications for Industry-Specific Markets
ACTION ITEMS
Sybase, Inc. has announced that it will make available a series of industry-specific business intelligence applications that provide significant information directly related to assisting corporations in improving their competitive positioning within their marketplace. Combined with Sybase Warehouse Studio, the company's leading data warehouse design and meta data management environment, these industry applications minimize risk, significantly reduce deployment timelines and consequently provide increased return on investment.
Each industry Warehouse Studio contains an industry best-practices blueprint consisting of comprehensive information for decision support applications, data management and administration functions, along with queries, reports and graphs for business intelligence tools. These industry packages are specifically tailored for the retail banking, insurance, telecommunications, utilities, retail, credit card, healthcare and distribution industries. A sample of the applications available for the supported industries are risk management, fraud detection, value analysis, segmentation, campaign management, profitability analysis, and cross selling.
Each of the industry Warehouse Studios is database independent. This means that the industry products can be deployed in environments where the database engine used to execute the application queries can be any SQL product, including those from Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, Informix, and Sybase.
"As companies rely on business intelligence applications to make critical day-to-day decisions, they are demanding solutions that can be delivered quickly and cost-effectively," said Michael Schiff, Director of Data Warehousing Strategies, Current Analysis, Inc. "With these new vertical offerings, Sybase is responding to customer demands by providing database independent, business intelligence applications that offer industry-specific, knowledge-based solutions."
"One of the unique advantages of these packages is that they have evolved through five years of successful implementations in large-scale installations around the world. They have a proven track record, enabling users to extract critical information that drives their business, thereby giving them a clear competitive edge," said Eric Miles, senior vice president and general manager, Business Intelligence Division, Sybase, Inc. "For example, the retail banking package allows customers to check the viability of cross selling financial products, to easily rank customers by risk or profitability or even to drill down into marketing campaigns to measure their return on investment based on customer response. In the healthcare arena, the Warehouse Studio package allows management to rank high-risk groups by demographic profiling, analyze relationships between prescribed medicines and recovery rates and rank the best healthcare providers."

The industry-specific Warehouse Studio packages from Sybase for banking, telecommunications, insurance and healthcare are scheduled to be available in March 1999.
