DISA Signs Strategic Deal with SAS Institute

SAS Institute Inc., a market leader in integrated data warehousing and decision support, has announced that it recently signed a strategic, five-year licensing agreement with The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in excess of $21 million.
DISA and SAS Institute negotiated a mainframe-based licensing agreement to meet the Department of Defense's (DoD) changing Information Technology (IT) paradigm. With this agreement, DISA will be able to provide DoD-wide access to SAS mainframe products at any of their Defense Megacenters (DMC), or Regional Support Activities (RSA).
"This agreement allows us to comprehensively address DISA's DoD-wide requirements while taking advantage of the Institute's standard business model," said Daniel Boyle, SAS Institute's Director, DOD and Intelligence. "The partnership between DISA and the Institute is the result of three years of continuous effort by many professionals on both teams," Boyle said.
By entering into the strategic deal with SAS, DISA will have increased flexibility for software use and deployment, predictable software costs for improved budgeting, and significant administrative savings. The benefits of the strategic deal for SAS are increased use, increased exposure within the DoD community and the creation of a strategic partnership with DISA.
DISA, a combat support agency of DoD, provides information systems support to its customers, and is responsible for providing a seamless web of communications networks, computers, software, databases, applications and other capabilities that meets the information processing and transport needs of DoD users. DISA is the sole provider for the Nation's warfighters of reliable, flexible and affordable information systems support.
Data processing is performed by DISA at Defense Megacenters and Regional Support Activities, providing services such as payroll, logistics, personnel, health, supply and transportation. In 1999, the SAS team will continue working with DISA to expand their partnership and the use of the SAS System within DoD. "In addition to this mainframe agreement, our goal is to be a standard solution for DISA and DoD on their servers and desktops," Boyle said. "This agreement is a significant step in the ongoing process to assist DISA and DoD in providing their customers with reliable, flexible, affordable, state-of-the-art information solutions."
