BMC Software Selects Pine Cone Systems' Usage Tracker
for Managing Data Warehousing Applications
ACTION ITEMS
Pine Cone Systems, a leading provider of data warehousing administration and management software solutions, has announced an agreement with BMC Software, Inc., a leading developer of software solutions that improve the availability, performance and recoverability of business-critical applications and data, that will provide BMC Software's Enterprise Data Propagation (EDP) customers with detailed data warehouse usage statistics, enabling them to intelligently select the required data to propagate to the data warehouse.
Together, BMC Software and Pine Cone Systems will provide warehouse-enabled solutions with Pine Cone closely tracking and reporting on the critical elements of data warehouse activity and BMC Software providing high-performance data propagation from operational systems. The agreement encompasses a software bundle as well as joint sales and marketing programs.
Under the terms of the agreement, a 30-day trial version of Pine Cone's Usage Tracker software, which monitors and reports on warehouse usage, will be bundled with BMC Software's EDP products that propagate data from IMS, VSAM and DB2 sources to Oracle databases. BMC Software will market, sell and distribute the new product bundle through BMC Software's sales channels.
"The inclusion of Pine Cone's Usage Tracker into our EDP product suite provides tremendous complementary functionality and further solidifies BMC Software's position in the data warehousing marketplace," said Joyce Durst, vice president, Data Availability at BMC Software. "By combining Usage Tracker with BMC's EDP products, our customers will be provided with the historical usage statistics to optimize their data warehouse's return on investment."
"We are pleased to be partnering with BMC Software, truly an industry leader and innovator," said Pine Cone President and CEO Dennis McCann. "For such a prestigious player in the industry to select Pine Cone's data warehousing management solution is significant and further reinforces the validity of Pine Cone's approach to maximizing a customer's investment in its data warehouse."
BMC Software's Enterprise Data Propagation (EDP) product suite is a high-performance system that integrates, coordinates and manages the movement of bulk data, change data and schema across the enterprise. Pine Cone's Usage Tracker software analyzes activity against the data warehouse and data mart to answer such questions as "what data is being used?," "which DSS analysts are using the system?," and "what kinds of activities are occurring?" Once users know this information, they can accurately identify which data to propagate based on what data is used and needed, which further optimizes the data propagation process.
BMC Software and Pine Cone Webcast
In association with the partnership announcement, BMC Software and Pine Cone are co-sponsoring a Webcast on April 30, 1999, which will be hosted by Pine Cone founder and Chief Technology Officer Bill Inmon, and BMC Software's Vice President, Data Availability, Joyce Durst, who will share their extensive experience on "Data Propagation for Data Warehousing."
"The challenge is to deliver the exact information decision-makers want and need to drive the business to peak performance," said Pine Cone's Inmon, considered the "father of the data warehouse." Added BMC Software's Durst, "Propagating data from production systems to decision support systems takes considerable time and resources. Together with Bill Inmon, I look forward to sharing ideas on how to deliver the most data, and the highest speed possible from your IMS, VSAM or DB2 sources and how to optimize the data propagation process." Participation in the Webcast, which will be held April 30th at 12:00 MST, is free. To register, visit http://www.vstream.com/login/pinecone/bmc_login.vhtm.
