Pilot Software Announces Pilot Internet Publisher 6.1
Decision Support Solution for Web
ACTION ITEMS
Pilot Software, a leading provider of Web-based and client/server online analytical processing (OLAP) business intelligence and performance measurement solutions, has announced Pilot Internet Publisher (PIP) Version 6.1, which delivers powerful decision support solutions on the World Wide Web to users at corporate or remote locations through popular Web browser interfaces.
Among the highlights of this newest release is Netscape Enterprise Server support to enable PIP to run on Sun Solaris 2.6 UNIX. This expands upon the company's use of Microsoft Internet Information Server for Microsoft Windows NT.
"Pilot's support for the Sun Solaris UNIX platform is critical because of the tremendous Netscape penetration in this platform," said Kendall Garey, PIP product manager. "With support for both NT and Solaris 2.6 UNIX, we can greatly expand our market reach in Web environments. In addition, PIP 6.1 adds enhancements that allow for greater flexibility and customization for our users."
Additional features in PIP 6.1 include:
In conjunction with the company's hybrid online analytical processing (HOLAP) capabilities, PIP provides customers with the most scalable solutions available for very large user communities (thousands of users) analyzing massive amounts of data.
PIP facilitates the deployment of Web-based applications that interactively access the Pilot Analysis Engine in the Pilot Decision Support Suite (PDSS). These applications provide the fastest deployment time in the industry. Users can be up and running as soon as the data model is loaded because no screen development time is required.
PDSS is the company's OLAP solution that enables people to analyze their operational and market data, discover critical factors and trends that drive the business, then use that knowledge to take specific actions to optimize company performance.
Using PIP, users in decentralized enterprises can have access to the same business intelligence as if they were local users -- without dedicated network connections. PIP's architecture takes advantage of the "statelessness" of the Internet: Each request is free-standing and not dependent upon others. This frees the application from having to simulate a connection to the data, enabling massive numbers of simultaneous queries to be managed effectively and efficiently across multiple processes. Thus, PIP provides tremendous scalability, permitting broad deployment of analytical solutions to many thousands of users.
Pricing and Availability
PIP 6.1 will be available in May 1999 as part of PDSS, beginning at $25,000.
