Police Agency in the Netherlands Selects Brio Technology for Business Intelligence
ACTION ITEMS

Brio Technology, Inc. has announced that one of the largest police regions in the Netherlands -- the Hague -- has selected Brio Enterprise as the front-end business intelligence tool for its new data warehouse. In order to obtain a global view of the large amounts of data contained in an SAP R/3 and other systems, the IT department of the Hague police region decided to bring together information from the various data sources into one single, integrated management system. When fully implemented, more than 3,000 police officers will have on-line access to up-to-the minute operational criminal data.

"The Hague police region is not only one of the Netherlands' largest police regions, we are also known as a pioneer in adopting new integrated information and communication technologies," said Klaas Groen, office manager of the Hague police region. "We were looking for a business intelligence suite that offers good overall reporting capabilities, is easy to learn and use and, above all, is accessible by Web browser to a large number of end-users. Furthermore, the applications had to be fast to implement and easy to support. Brio enables us to have quick insight into up-to-the minute data to make faster and better informed decisions."

Upon complete implementation, more than 3,000 police officers will have access via the Web to operational data that is relevant for their particular district. Initially, Brio's Broadcast Server will provide them daily reports on the entire region, with the ability to drill down into information on their own district, such as the number of thefts, burglaries or robberies. Policing agency office workers will use Brio Enterprise to accurately analyze criminal data and make reports on increasing or decreasing criminality, geographical or organizational shifts or the effects of police actions. These reports will lead to up-to-date and better-informed decisions.

"One of the great advantages the Web offers is that customers can roll-out 3,000 users, but not need to provide each with the application individually," notes Roel Haverland, managing director of Brio Nederland. "These applications can be rolled out via the Web and supported centrally by system management. Customers tell us they appreciate the extra edge Brio offers because new users can learn how to use our products and get started in half a day or less."
