INFORMIX MAKES MAJOR COMMITMENT TO ENHANCE INFORMIX RED BRICK WAREHOUSE: TARGETS WEB/E-COMMERCE ANALYTICS

Informix Corporation, a technology leader in enterprise database-powered solutions, has announced the next generation of its Informix Red Brick Warehouse, code named "Spiderman" that will feature new Web-analytic capabilities to meet the challenging demands of today's Web/e-commerce applications.

With the exponential growth of e-commerce, Web merchandisers are recognizing the need for powerful data warehousing capabilities that enable the storage and manipulation of large amounts of specific customer data. Informix, with its highly acclaimed Red Brick data warehousing technology, is ideally suited to deliver the next generation of data warehousing technology for Web/e-commerce solutions.

"The demands of e-commerce have created the need for a scalable data warehousing solution that can handle vast amounts of complex data," said Leonard Palamino, general manager, Informix data warehousing division. "Informix Red Brick Warehouse is ideally suited to deliver the next generation of analytic data warehousing technology for Web/e-commerce solutions."

Just recently, Informix announced the integration of Informix Red Brick Warehouse with Informix's MetaCube 4.2 advanced ROLAP analytic engine. By providing tight integration with "Spiderman," MetaCube 4.2 will excel at the kind of complex analyses that typify the ever-changing web environment.

Targeting the Web: Building the Standard for the Analysis of E-business

"Spiderman," targeted for general availability later this year, expands Red Brick's existing position as the world's best analytic data mart platform to also become the world's best e-commerce analytic tool. Spiderman will also underlie the analytic portion of Informix's e-commerce solution - powering both customer relationship management (CRM) capability and "click-stream" Web-behavioral analysis in a single package.

"Informix is well positioned to deliver analytic capabilities as part of a total e-commerce solution," said Don DePalma, principal at the e-commerce consultancy Common Sense Advisory. "E-commerce is about the ability to manage large amounts of transactional data, inventories, collecting information and managing customer profiles, all critical elements of true one-to-one marketing for the Internet economy."

Driving Business Success through "Analytic Merchandising"

Few would argue that data warehousing and e-commerce represent the "next wave" in information technology. With years of experience and expertise in delivering enterprise class engines and data warehousing solutions, Informix will provide customers the ability to turn volumes of data into business insights through the combination of Informix's i.Sell e-commerce solution and Red Brick Warehouse, which together provide the foundation for Analytic Merchandising.

Analytic Merchandising takes one-to-one marketing to the next level by delivering personalized content developed with behavior-based customer information gathered in real time. Analytic Merchandising improves on current online merchandising techniques through the application of sophisticated, analytical data mining tools to deliver real time content based on detailed preferences, actual interest, buying patterns and shopping habits.

Analysis of Customer Data Key to Marketing Advantage

Informix customers are already relying on Informix data warehouses to provide the analytic capability needed for competitive advantage. Catalina Marketing helps packaged goods manufacturers and supermarket retailers customize promotions around shoppers' actual purchase behavior. A pioneer in scanner-activated electronic marketing, Catalina Marketing has created a new marketing staple through data warehousing applications and has brought food industry businesses closer to their shoppers in the supermarket aisles.

"We have a business-critical application running on Red Brick that requires the high capacity and high performance that the Informix Red Brick Warehouse technology offers to load over 95 million rows nightly and support 50 concurrent queries on a 1.5TB database," said Kelly R. Carrigan, director of database architecture for Catalina Marketing. "We understand that the Red Brick acquisition was executed to obtain the technology advances of the Red Brick product and will result in a more robust data warehousing solutions over the coming years."
