ACTION ITEMS

Sybase, Inc. has announced the availability of four Industry Warehouse Studios for business intelligence that provides database independent applications for the insurance, healthcare, telecommunications and retail banking industries. The four studios include Property & Casualty Insurance Warehouse Studio 2.0, Healthcare Warehouse Studio 2.0, Telco Warehouse Studio 2.0 and Retail Banking Warehouse Studio 2.0. Each contains a wide range of packaged applications, a framework to provide for company-specific customization and features a data warehouse design and meta data-management environment. Designed to minimize risk, significantly reduce deployment timelines and provide increased return on investment, the four vertical packages are a part of a series of Warehouse Studios that also includes the credit card, utility, life insurance and retail industries.

"Sybase recognizes that companies are increasingly relying on information obtained through business intelligence applications to make important business decisions," said Eric Miles, senior vice president and general manager, Business Intelligence Division, Sybase, Inc. "The Industry Warehouse Studios provide those companies with a way to take full advantage of business intelligence capabilities while reducing implementation costs by allowing users to identify and analyze critical data, specific to their industry and competitive marketplace."

"Sybase's idea of a packaged Data Warehouse application infrastructure is certainly valuable," said David Wells, principal analyst at Europe's leading research company, Ovum. "It is very useful for people implementing data warehouses or data marts, to have a framework which guides development. There is often disconnect between user needs and developers during the first iteration of development. Sybase Industry Warehouse Studios help avoid this scenario."

"By providing a common technology base for different industries, Sybase offers a unique advantage by making it possible to integrate information across industry sectors," said Michael Burwen, president of The Consortium for Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing Research. "For example, if an insurance company acquires a healthcare firm, then the information for both segments can be integrated because the technology framework is common to both markets."

Industry Application Studios Provide Sophisticated Decision Support

Each of the Industry Warehouse Studios consists of three cross-industry applications and one industry-specific premium application that power the entire solution. The four applications, designed for sophisticated, business intelligence analysis include:
