Mitsubishi Electric Forms Strategic OEM Partnership with Informatica to Target Japan's Data Warehousing Market
Informatica Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation have announced a strategic partnership in which Mitsubishi will resell Informatica's PowerCenter and PowerMart data warehousing software as part of a comprehensive, high-performance data warehousing solution for the Japanese market which will include its own DIAPRISM data warehouse performance-enhancement product and a to-be-named business intelligence tool. To support the newly integrated product offering, Mitsubishi Electric will initiate large-scale sales and marketing activities in Japan, create a customer support program, and jointly develop an internationalized and Japanized version of all Informatica's data warehousing products.
A combination of hardware and software, DIAPRISM enhances data warehouse performance by addressing performance and scalability problems that can confront data warehouse and business intelligence solutions operating within a Windows NT environment. DIAPRISM can sort the one-million, 100-byte Datamation benchmark records (an industry standard for sorting data) in a world-record 1.48 seconds. The pairing of DIAPRISM with Informatica's data warehousing platform is designed to greatly speed the delivery of data to companies seeking to build a data warehouse in order to conduct strategic business analysis.
"As one of Japan's leading technology companies, Mitsubishi Electric is a powerful partner for Informatica as it enters the data warehousing market in Japan," said Gaurav Dhillon, CEO of Informatica. "The integration of DIAPRISM with Informatica's data warehousing platform is designed to provide tremendous scalability and performance benefits to companies with very high data-volume requirements. Our alliance with Mitsubishi Electric helps complete Informatica's data warehousing solution to span the needs of today's global enterprise."
"Data warehousing represents an important technology market in Japan, one that Mitsubishi Electric is looking to play a central role in developing," said Kazuyuki Katori, general manager, information systems engineering at Mitsubishi Electric. "Our decision to integrate DIAPRISM with Informatica's data warehousing platform, which we chose after evaluating numerous other data warehousing products, promises to provide companies in Japan with a comprehensive, powerful solution for data warehousing."
Mitsubishi Electric will distribute the integrated, high-performance data warehouse solution in the fall of 1999 via a dedicated direct sales organization and through indirect sales channels in Japan focused specifically on data warehousing, business intelligence and ERP data integration. The initial distribution effort will focus on 13 major cities across Japan, however future plans call for expanding distribution to the entire Asia-Pacific region. The solution will also be made available to companies in the U.S. by the end of 1999.
PowerCenter is an enterprise data-integration hub that enables large organizations to easily transform legacy, relational and ERP data into reliable information for strategic business analysis. PowerMart is an integrated tool suite for designing, deploying, managing and maintaining line-of-business data marts and analytic applications. Together, Informatica's products deliver a leading platform for building and managing an enterprise decision support system that facilitates application deployment while reducing complexity in the users' enterprise decision support environment.
