Data Into Action Installs Data Warehouse/Knowledge Management System at International Rectifier

Data Into Action (DIA), a leading Southern California-based computer systems integrator, has installed the latest in data warehousing and knowledge management technology at International Rectifier, a leading worldwide supplier of power semiconductors.

The new system, now operational at the firm's El Segundo, Calif. headquarters, allows top management throughout the world to gain instant access to, and analyze, valuable information in a variety of report formats, vastly improving the company's decision support environment.

"Reports that once took hours to generate now are completed in seconds and minutes," said Doug Burke, project manager and systems analyst in International Rectifier's MIS (Management Information Systems) department. "We can now spend more time on data analysis than on data collection. It has made all of our managers who access and use the system more efficient and informed."

The new Hyperion Essbase OLAP (online analytical processing) software system is designed to create timely reports with as much detail about the company's operations and finances as is needed by management, added Doug Simao, president of Data Into Action, a Gold Consulting Partner of Hyperion Solutions Corp.

"Essbase is designed for managers and analysts in large companies and organizations who need rapid multi-user access to consolidated enterprise performance data that can be readily viewed from multiple dimensions, regardless of the complexity of the query," said Simao.

"It provides business critical information with 'speed of thought' response times to several functions throughout the corporation, including business analysts, financial planners, and product, sales and production managers," he added.

International Rectifier is a major worldwide supplier of power semiconductors, which convert electrical energy to operate power supplies, motor drives and lighting ballasts. Its patented HEXFET power Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFET) and Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) make IR the world leader in field effect transistors.

The company's technological advances improve performance and energy efficiency of electronic and electrical equipment in automotive, consumer, computer/peripheral, industrial, lighting, telecom and government/space applications.

Data Into Action, whose clients include Boeing, Nissan, Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba, Toyota and others, specializes in data warehousing and knowledge management, the process of identifying and organizing a company's bank of computer-based knowledge -- or data -- making it quick and easy to access and analyze by the people who need it.
