SAS Institute Delivers Data Warehouse Reporting Through A Web Browser

SAS Institute Inc., a market leader in integrated data warehousing, decision support and information delivery, has announced the production availability of Enterprise Reporter software Version 2.

Announced at PC Expo '99 in New York, Enterprise Reporter is a component of the award-winning SAS data warehousing solution, and completes the process of turning data into useful information by enabling users to see, analyze and present information customized to their specific reporting needs. Enterprise Reporter Version 2 provides an enterprise-wide solution and features performance and scalability, ease of use, and complete integration with the SAS System.

Tom Ianieri, business solutions developer at Quaker Chemical Corporation, highlighted just a few of the benefits Enterprise Reporter software has brought to his organization: "Enterprise Reporter has given us multiple output options, providing us with the ability to turn ordinary reports into professional looking graphical reports on paper or HTML. The ease of HTML output allows for the creation of static reports for our intranet - giving us the opportunity to reduce our reporting backlog."

Enterprise Reporter software answers the reporting needs of customers who are implementing a data warehousing solution. It allows executives, managers, and business analysts to view and print pre-defined reports through a browser or the Report Gallery (to make timely decisions), as well as make simple modifications to the report for "what-if" analysis.

"Many basic reporting needs of business users cannot be met in a timely manner due to the backlog within an organization's IT department," says Margo Stutesman, SAS Institute program manager for enterprise reporting." This backlog is the result of shrinking resources and shifting priorities. Enterprise Reporter provides business users with a solution that lets them create, modify and print reports without having to call upon the resources of the IT department." Version 2 of Enterprise Reporter focuses on customer orientation. It is even more responsive and provides greater flexibility that allows end users to create reports and distribute them to the right people, at the right time, with the right level of information.

Version 2 contains enhancements in major areas including performance and scalability, integration with the SAS System and ease of use. Version 2.0 now provides native database access to DB2, ORACLE and ODBC allowing users to register data in InfoFolders for optimal performance via Passthrough SQL code. Additionally, it provides support for registering the HOLAP data type in SAS/MDDB Server -- offering scalability and reporting on a mixed data source (MDDBs, RDBMS, SAS tables).

Many enhancements have been made to the Enterprise Reporter table object. Users will now be able to place concatenated reports and objects into one report document, simplifying the process of printing multiple reports with common page layout and numbering. Enterprise Reporter Web Gallery lets you distribute reports to anyone with a Web browser giving an organization greater flexibility in distributing reports. The capability to save reports in PDF format allows distribution of high quality, printable reports to everyone in your organization.

Pricing And Platforms

Enterprise Reporter is available for Windows 95 and Windows NT. Pricing is user based, and extremely low cost. In the United States, prices range from $299/user for 50 users, to $99/user for 1,000 or more users.
