Leading Data Mining Software Enables Customers To Mine Large Data Sets Faster With Visual Work Flow

Paving the way for increased efficiency while data mining large datasets, SPSS Inc. is now shipping Clementine Server, a large-scale, distributed data mining software package. An expansion of the award-winning Clementine data mining software, Clementine Server helps users put valuable information into decision makers hands by combining all the benefits of a pioneering visual workflow interface with scalability and faster performance. The product is currently shipping.

"The amount of data our customers are working with is growing and so is their need for useful information. Clementine Server delivers what they are asking for - the ability to mine larger datasets faster than the non-server version," said Keith Guenther, senior marketing manager at SPSS. "When we acquired Integral Solutions Ltd. (ISL) - the developers of Clementine - earlier this year, we promised the existing customers that we would fulfill ISL's promise to deliver a scalable version. As a result of these two influences, this release of a distributed version of Clementine is in response to the needs of all of our users."

Clementine Server's distributed architecture gets users to a data mining solution faster by speeding up data access and preparation - where up to 80 percent of customers' time is expended while data mining. The software starts by leveraging the power of the customer's Database Management System (DBMS) and a fast server to dramatically reduce time-to-solution. In addition, the distributed architecture achieves optimal performance by running network-intensive operations on a server rather than on a desktop computer. Throughout the process, operations are performed in the DBMS or in the server to minimize network traffic to desktop machines, thereby eliminating bottlenecks. More information about this technology is available in an SPSS white paper, Clementine Server Distributed Architecture, and can be found at

Clementine Server's approach to data mining is used in a variety of applications, including database marketing, customer profiling, promotion response analysis, fraud detection, credit risk scoring, medical risk analysis, survey research, process analysis and crime analysis.

Clementine was the first enterprise-strength data mining offering aimed at business users and is consistently acknowledged by users and analysts as the leading interactive data mining system. More than 250 organizations worldwide use Clementine, including companies such as American Century Investments, Daimler-Chrysler, Glaxo Wellcome, Reuters and Unilever. Clementine has established a leading position in the data mining tools market and is used in a wide range of industry sectors, including finance, retail, telecommunication, pharmaceuticals, utilities, broadcasting, government and higher education.
