Sybase And Nettech Systems Team To Enable Wireless Synchronization Of E-Business Data

Sybase, Inc. and Nettech Systems Inc. announced that they are working together to enable the wireless synchronization of e-Business data from mobile devices, including laptops and handhelds, to a variety of corporate information sources. Nettech plans to join the Sybase Business Solutions Alliance Program, and Sybase plans to join Nettech System's Partner Program, enabling the companies to jointly address demand for wireless data synchronization solutions through a variety of targeted marketing efforts. The combination of Sybase SQL Anywhere Studio with Nettech Systems' mobile middleware products, including Smart IP and ExpressQ, offers customers the convenience of using wireless technology for mobile synchronization, while reducing the time and costs associated with sending large volumes of data across a wireless network.

"Mobile workers are demanding wireless synchronization of their corporate data from anywhere, at anytime. The Sybase/Nettech partnership provides a comprehensive enterprise development platform to make that possible," said Don Grust, Vice President of Worldwide Business Development for Nettech Systems, Inc. "We're pleased to team with Sybase to enhance the wireless synchronization component of its forward-looking e-Anywhere strategy."

"Support for wireless synchronization is critical to the effectiveness of Northeast Utilities' mobile infrastructure, which is used by our field staff to get immediate information about utility outages and emergencies," said Andrew J. Kasznay, III, Software Engineer, Northeast Utilities. "The combination of Sybase SQL Anywhere and Nettech's ExpressQ gives us the best infrastructure to support the development and deployment of mobile applications without the need for programmers to understand or worry about wireless protocols."

Wireless data synchronization is a key part of Sybase's recently announced e-Anywhere initiative, which addresses the synchronization, collection, and distribution of an enterprise's e-Business information at any time, from any location. As a part of e-Anywhere, Sybase is working to provide an architecture focused on three key technology areas: enterprise synchronization and distribution; SQL Anywhere's small footprint, local data store; and customizable applications. This alliance with Nettech extends Sybase's synchronization technologies to enable the transfer of enterprise e-Business data over public domain wireless networks.

"Wireless technology is evolving rapidly and is being incorporated into an increasing number of enterprise infrastructures," said Brian Vink, Vice President of Marketing, Sybase's Mobile and Embedded Computing Division. "We're pleased to be working with Nettech to extend our e-Anywhere strategy to give mobile users near real-time wireless access to essential corporate information."

Nettech's mobile middleware provides optimizations and other mobile features that allow users to work in a wireless environment. Smart IP allows internet and intranet applications to communicate interactively over wireless networks, while ExpressQ provides advanced services such as store-and-forward message queuing and guaranteed message delivery.

The Sybase/Nettech solution will be demonstrated at Wireless IT 99, (Santa Clara, CA) November 2-4, 1999.
