HP And HNC Retek Achieve New Level Of Performance With Retail Business-Intelligence Solution; Benchmark Test Results Demonstrate Speed And Scalability For Retail Software

Hewlett-Packard Company and HNC Retek announced benchmark results for a joint retail data-warehousing solution that offers increased speed and scalability; the solution also surpassed goals based on real-world parameters.

"With the solution from HP and HNC Retek, retail analysts can now obtain data at the click of a mouse," said Janice Chaffin, Vice President and General Manager of HP's Business Critical Computing Business Unit, "HP and HNC Retek offer high performance for both transaction loading and data queries. The net benefit to retail customers is immediate access to information."

The tests were based on the following configurations: HP V2500 32-way Enterprise Server with 16 GB of memory running the HP-UX(1) 11 operating environment, Oracle 8.1.5 and Retek Data Warehouse (RDW) 3.0, along with the HP SureStore E Disk Array FC60 with a total of 3 TB of raw disk and additional HP servers.

Prior to conducting the tests, goals were set based on the same tasks performed in real-world situations with similar equipment. Using HNC Retek software on the HP infrastructure, a realistic mix of 2,935 end-user reports were processed in less than 64 minutes on a 1 TB data warehouse, well under the goal time of four hours. An additional goal of the test was to load 4.2 million transactions in four hours on the 1 TB data warehouse. Those transactions loaded in less than 1.5 hours.

A copy of the full test results is available by calling HNC Retek at 1-877-enable2.
