Community Of Science Partners With SDSC
Community of Science, Inc. (COS) has announced a collaborative partnership with the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) that will allow COS to draw on the expertise of SDSC to enhance COS' products and services.
COS and SDSC will collaborate on a broad range of projects, including the development of extensible markup language (XML) standards for documents relevant to scientists and scholars. These documents include electronic journal articles, invention disclosures, conference abstracts, and "professional profiles."
Community of Science, Inc., is a Web network of scientists and scholars at more than 800 universities and societies worldwide. COS products and services include COS Funding Opportunities, the largest source of grant information on the Web; COS Workbench, a customized workspace for researchers; and COS Document Management System, an online publishing solution for universities and scholarly societies
The creation of XML standards for scientific documents is of general interest to the basic research and R&D communities, and will permit the development of new Web-based tools for the production and distribution of scientific and scholarly information.
COS and SDSC will coordinate their outreach to the scientific, government and business communities to promote and publicize the new standards that they develop. SDSC will also provide COS access to its computational resources for development and prototyping efforts.
"The San Diego Supercomputer Center is a recognized leader in computational science and digital library applications, and in the development of XML technologies for research information," said Huntington Williams, III, President and CEO. "COS is delighted to work with the talented staff and leadership of SDSC on this important initiative."
