Sybase Claims To Lead In DW Performance

Sybase, Inc. announced the results of a significant performance test with Adaptive Server IQ(12). A series of similar benchmarks have demonstrated the performance of Sybase's flagship database for data warehousing - IQ(12).

A 100 gigabyte benchmark of IQ(12)-32 bit ran on a Sun 3500 with eight CPUs and four gigabytes of memory. In contrast, Informix Dynamic Server AD 8.2, 64-bit ran on a Sun 4500 with 12 CPUs and 12 gigabytes of memory.

Sybase obtained superior performance and throughput using 60% less memory and 30% less CPU versus Informix, while still only using the 32-bit version of IQ(12). Another differentiation between IQ(12) and Informix was the ability to run 60% more concurrent queries, performing updates to the database at the same time.

"Sybase Adaptive Server IQ is a significant product whose unique bit wise technology offers important performance benefits and cost savings, especially to users of complex ad hoc queries against large databases," said Colin White, Senior Director, DataBase Associates International.

A "Free Test Challenge" on the developer edition of IQ(12) for the NT platform is currently available. Concurrent with the free test-drive, Sybase is offering free Web-based education and free newsgroup support to help customers successfully take advantage of Adaptive Server IQ(12)'s capabilities.

Sybase Adaptive Server IQ(12) is available now on Sun Solaris, IBM, AIX, Compaq Tru64 UNIX, HP-UX and Windows NT servers.
