REPORT PREDICTS EXPLOSIVE GROWTH FOR BI MARKET
The BI/DW Research Program forecasts that the worldwide and North American BI/DW markets will grow at an AAGR of 43% over the period 1999-2003, to more than $148 billion. The forecast is based in part on the results of a survey of 472 pre-qualified decision makers involved with the purchasing and implementation of BI/DW initiatives within their respective organizations. The conclusive analyses of the results of this survey are presented in a companion document, the 1999 Database Solutions III Report, North America.
Peter J. Auditore, President of the BI/DW Research Program, states, "The forecast is consistent with the findings of the predecessor Database Solutions series of studies that were conducted over the past three years. We believe the market will be driven by strategic corporate and organizational initiatives, such as customer relationship management and e-commerce worldwide."
Using the Input/Output (I/O) econometric modeling technique, the forecast is based on, and provides an in-depth look at, the following five major market categories:
Auditore continues, "Not counting the in-house category, storage represents the largest market opportunity. It is also the fastest growing segment, growing at about 47% annually over the forecast period. Software will be the next largest category, followed by systems and services. The services share could be substantially larger if services vendors succeed in displacing more in-house activity than we project."
