Cluster Computing:VERITAS DELIVERS NEW CLUSTERING CAPABILITYVERITAS Software Corporation, the leading storage software provider, announced the availability of a series of new application agents for VERITAS Cluster Server that helps ensure "out-of-the-box" enhanced availability and performance for leading enterprise applications BEA Tuxedo, BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Oracle Applications, PeopleSoft, SAP and Siebel. VERITAS Cluster Server, the industry's leading heterogeneous clustering and high availability software, supports the widest variety of databases, applications, hardware platforms and operating systems. These new application agents keep core applications running without interruption using tight integration with VERITAS Cluster Server. The clustering agents, which help ensure continuity through comprehensive management of applications, are designed to perform deep-level monitoring to ensure the VERITAS cluster is fully aware of the state of each application service. VERITAS Cluster Server can eliminate planned and unplanned downtime by automating failover of the application to an alternate server, networking and storage configuration in the event of an outage, giving more uptime to meet the service levels companies demand. "With the help of the VERITAS solution and our vision for a flexible, highly redundant architecture for business resumption, we have been able to implement a fully automated failover solution between two geographically dispersed data centers," said Boris Sherman, director of operations, UAL Loyalty Services. "VERITAS' automated solutions and flexible application support have helped us significantly increase our service levels for ULS's numerous e-commerce sites in addition to enabling us to do a lot more with a small staff. VERITAS is clearly a success for our organization." Beyond high availability and workload management, organizations also use VERITAS Cluster Server to optimize performance by distributing application workload across clustered servers, maximizing CPU power for mission-critical applications and data. Both application availability and performance service levels are important building blocks of a utility computing model, which delivers IT as a measurable service and helps companies adapt to changing business demands. Organizations implementing a data center disaster recovery solution can leverage the integration among VERITAS Cluster Server, VERITAS Database Edition, VERITAS Volume Manager, VERITAS Volume Replicator and VERITAS Global Cluster Manager, to automate data center failover in the event of a single or multiple site failure, which helps minimize disruptions to data access, application services and storage, and protects from downtime and data loss. "Central to VERITAS' strategy to enable utility computing is the ability to provide storage capacity and computing power to applications when and where they're needed," said Bob Maness, senior director of product marketing, VERITAS Software. "VERITAS Cluster Server helps IT organizations build a highly available infrastructure, designed to meet service levels for a diverse number of applications, servers and storage subsystems on which businesses rely." |
