TRIBUTES MARK ANITA BORG CELEBRATION AND TECHNOLOGY SUMMIT
Pre-eminent technologists and business leaders gathered on September 9th, 2003
at Stanford University to celebrate the life and vision of the late Dr. Anita
Borg, founder of the Institute for Women and Technology. In addition to
discussions and lectures aimed at reshaping the technology workforce, the
Anita Borg Celebration and Technology Summit built on Dr. Borg's legacy with
the following awards and recognition:

Though Dr. Borg lost her battle with cancer in April 2003, the technology
industry continues to support her vision for a future where women's voices,
ideas and spirits influence how and why technology is developed. "The
outpouring of support for Anita and the Anita Borg Celebration has been
tremendous. Key leaders realize the importance of Anita's work and are making
substantial commitments to see it carried on through their support of this
event and the Institute for Women and Technology," said event host and
Institute President Dr. Telle Whitney. "Anita had a major influence on so
many people and organizations, and we are proud to celebrate her life and
legacy in such a meaningful way."
Held at Stanford University's Memorial Auditorium, the Anita Borg Celebration
and Technology Summit began with a public memorial to Dr. Borg followed by
lectures, discussions and panels. Keynote speakers and panelists included:
Judy Estrin, Chairman, Packet Design; Dr. William Wulf, President, National
Academy of Engineering; Kara Swisher, Wall Street Journal; Dr. Fran Allen,
Fellow Emeritus, IBM; Denise Brosseau, Founder, Forum for Women Entrepreneurs;
and Dr. Maria Klawe, Dean of Engineering and Applied Science, Princeton
University. The day culminated with a gala banquet held at the Crowne Plaza
Cabana featuring Dr. Moira Gunn, host of NPR's "TechNation," as master of
ceremonies and Dawn Lepore, CIO and Vice Chair of Charles Schwab, who
delivered the keynote address.
