LIVEwire News Briefs:Altair Engineering's PBS Pro Selected By CrayAltair Engineering Inc, a global leader in engineering, consulting and high performance computing technology, announced an agreement with Cray Inc. Under the agreement, Cray will bundle Altair's PBS Pro distributed computing technology with all Cray X1 supercomputers and resell PBS Pro into the installed base of existing Cray T-90, Cray SV1 and Cray MTA systems. PBS Pro enables customers in the government, life sciences, energy, research, logistics, manufacturing and financial industries to optimize the utilization of their high performance computing environments by aggregating computation resources into a virtual pool and intelligently scheduling their computational workload across this virtual pool. Engineers and scientists who utilize PBS Pro are more productive because they can focus their attention on their analyses and are relieved of the need to remember various application and operating specific job control languages. "Cray software engineers have been working with Altair's PBS Pro developers for more than a year and together we have optimized the scalability and performance of PBS Pro on the Cray X1 platform," said Wayne Margotto, engineering manager at Cray. "Cray X1 supercomputers are designed to address the world's most challenging technical problems. We bundled PBS Pro with our X1 systems so customers can maximize their utilization of these powerful supercomputers." "Because Cray customers perform computational analyses requiring massive scalability and performance, this new relationship is ideal, said Michael Humphrey, vice president of Altair Engineering's Enterprise Computing Business Unit. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with Cray and hope to extend this PBS Pro agreement to include future Cray products as they become available." |
