LIVEwire News Briefs:Force10 Networks Demos Resiliency, Performance Of E-SeriesForce10 Networks Inc, a pioneer in resilient switching and routing, unveiled the E300, the most recent addition to the Force10 E-Series, at the Supercomputing 2003 (SC2003) conference, Nov. 17-21, at the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention Center in Phoenix. Force10 will demonstrate its complete E-Series in booth 1711, highlighting the resiliency of the E1200, E600 and E300 in a variety of simulated network situations. The Force10 E-Series will also be deployed in the show's network and will play a crucial role in several of the SC2003 Bandwidth Challenges. The Force10 E300 is the most recent addition to the E-Series and shares the performance and resiliency that characterize the E1200 and E600. With line-rate Gigabit and 10 Gigabit throughput and built-in redundancy to simplify network management, the E300 delivers the resiliency and scalability that are essential to predictable network performance. As the industry's smallest and most cost-effective platform, the Force10 E300 reduces 10 Gigabit Ethernet entry costs, bringing line-rate performance and best-in-class resiliency to small and medium-size high performance networking environments. Marshall Eisenberg, Force10's director of technical marketing, will explore the evolving role of 10 Gigabit Ethernet in high performance networking environments at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 20. In his presentation, "High Performance Computing Cluster Interconnects: From Proprietary to Standards-based Ethernet," Eisenberg will assess the impact of standardization on the development of new high performance applications and the entry costs of 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Joining him in the session titled, "Performance and Integration Issues II," are Jeff Verrant of Ciena and Werner Krotz-Vogel of Pallas. At noon on Nov. 18, Steve Garrison, Force10's senior director of corporate marketing, will discuss new and innovative solutions for Grid computing applications in the Sun Microsystems booth, # 623. Garrison will examine the changing requirements of Grid computing and offer insight into how the market is responding to these new demands. In addition to the Force10 booth demonstrations, the E-Series will be deployed in SCinet, the state-of-the-art, on-site network for SC2003. In the Bandwidth Challenge, eight teams from science and research communities around the world, several of which are using the Force10 E-Series to provide 10 Gigabit links in their networks, will use SCinet to demonstrate the latest technologies and applications, moving meaningful data files across the multiple research networks that connect to SCinet. SC2003 highlights the most innovative developments in high performance computing and networking and demonstrates how these developments are sparking new ideas and new industries, as well as rekindling older ones. SC2003 will feature presentations and exhibits of the latest technological developments in fields such as information architectures, data storage, analysis and visualization, optical networking, scalable computing, scientific applications and distributed systems.
