Voltaire Showcases InfiniBand Interconnect Solutions
Voltaire, the leader in interconnect solutions for high performance grid
computing showcased InfiniBand cluster technology at the Supercomputing
(SC2004) show in Pittsburgh, PA. At the forefront of Voltaire's technology
demonstrations were a 10 teraflops-sized cluster connected with a single
Voltaire 288 port InfiniBand switch. Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect
solutions enable high performance applications to run on industry standard
server and storage platforms.
- "10 TFLOP-Off-The-Shelf" (10 TOTS) Demonstration: The "10TOTS"
demonstration showed a 10 teraflop-sized cluster with nine high density racks
from Ciara Technologies with Intel Xeon 3.6 GHx DP processors with EM64T and
PCI Express technology connected with the Voltaire ISR 9288, a 288 port multi-
protocol InfiniBand switch. In addition to delivering high performance and low
latency to the cluster, the Voltaire ISR 9288 enables I/O aggregation and
virtualization by allowing multiple servers to connect to storage and Ethernet
networks via a Fibre Channel or Ethernet router blade integrated in the
switch.
- OpenIB Demonstration (Sandia and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories):
Several OpenIB Alliance members including Voltaire have won an Advanced
Simulation and Computing (ASC) PathForward award from the U.S. Department of
Energy to develop a single, open-source software stack for InfiniBand. Under
the terms of the award, Voltaire will lead the group to accelerate the
production of a single stack to meet the scalability, performance,
portability, reliability and manageability requirements of large clusters for
the HPC community.
- StorCloud: Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect solutions are participating in
the StorCloud demonstration, which showcases high performance storage
technologies. StorCloud's "storage on request" area network capability
comprised of state-of-the art heterogeneous devices and technology, supports
researchers and demonstrates high bandwidth applications.
- AMD: HP demonstrated an AMD dual Opteron cluster connected with the
Voltaire ISR 6000 InfiniBand switch router.
- Apple Computer: The Voltaire ISR 6000 InfiniBand switch router
interconnects a 6-node, dual processor Apple Xserve G5 cluster.
- HP: The Voltaire ISR 6000 InfiniBand switch router interconnected an 8-
node, dual processor Xeon cluster.
- SGI: The Voltaire ISR 9024 InfiniBand switch router powered an Altix
cluster of 8 processor systems.
- RLX: RLX demonstrated FLUENT computational fluid dynamics software on a 10-
node Intel dual Xeon blade server cluster. Each blade connected to an
integrated InfiniBand back plane connected to a Voltaire ISR 9024 InfiniBand
switch router.
- California Digital: California Digital demonstrated Deja vu Reliability
software and Deja Qu Preemptive scheduler on a dual processor Apple Xserve G5
cluster connected by a Voltaire ISR 6000 InfiniBand switch router.
- Western Scientific: In this 16-node Opteron cluster, Voltaire InfiniBand
interconnect solutions enabled a unified, shared, high performance storage
system within a clustered Linux environment.
