Etnus TotalView Now Supports Novell SUSE LINUX TotalView

Etnus announced the availability of TotalView 6.6, which provides support for the popular SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 and SUSE LINUX Professional 9.1 Linux distributions, which include the Linux 2.6 kernel, from Novell.

TotalView is an advanced 32- and 64-bit graphical debugger that gives software engineers with complete control over threaded and parallel applications written in C, C++ or Fortran, and built-in, interactive memory debugging to detect leaks and monitor heap activity. TotalView's proprietary memory debugging technology neither instruments code nor alters libraries, and is fully integrated into the debugger, allowing users to debug code and eliminated memory problems at the same time, eliminating the need to wait for post-mortem style reports common in stand-alone memory tools.

Many observers have cited the lack of sophisticated development tools as a weakness in the Linux marketplace, and TotalView provides a premium, top- shelf debugging tool for this space. With deep, full-featured Linux support, TotalView introduce support for SUSE Linux one year ago on Intel x86 and AMD Athlon and Opteron. TotalView 6.6 adds support for SUSE LINUX Professional 9.1 and SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server (SLES) 9 on Intel EM64t and IA-64 (also including SLES 8), as well as SLES 9 on IBM POWER.

"Novell is thrilled to have Etnus broaden it support of SUSE LINUX with the release of TotalView 6.6" said Chris Cooper, director of Novell Developer Services. "TotalView 6.6 delivers functionality that helps developers create very sophisticated and robust applications and provides the ability to easily take advantage of the more advanced features of Linux in general and SUSE LINUX in particular."

SUSE LINUX is the first enterprise-class Linux built on the new Linux 2.6 kernel, offering unmatched performance and scalability. Novell brings a complete enterprise software ecosystem to Linux, providing technical support, training, consulting, indemnification and the extended partner network that IT buyers demand when developing to or deploying a strategic platform. Other features of TotalView 6.6 include support for the IBM Linux on Power and Intel EM64T architectures, PathScale’s C/C++ compiler version 1.3, and other compilers, distributions, and graphical user interface updates.

Long known for its superior ability to debug parallel and threaded code, TotalView offers the developer unrivaled ability to debug applications that use multithreading, MPI and OpenMP. Advanced features, such as heap allocation debugging, data analysis, and STLView for easy reading of standard template library data, provide unique capabilities to find and eliminate problems in complex applications.
