Fujitsu is a leading provider of Internet-focused information technology solutions for the global marketplace. Its pace-setting technologies, best-in-class computing and telecommunications platforms, and worldwide corps of systems and services experts make it uniquely positioned to unleash the infinite possibilities of the Internet to help its customers succeed. Headquartered in Tokyo, Fujitsu Limited (TSE:6702) reported consolidated revenues of 5.48 trillion yen for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2001.
Fujitsu's computer product lines range from palmtops to high performance computers. The High Performance Computer Strategy is a fundamental part of the company's total technology strategy. High performance computers represent the highest possible performance levels in computing where Fujitsu's vast experience in vertical integration, circuit and packaging technology, and engineering produce the most advanced computer technology in the world. The technologies developed and produced in high performance computers are used in virtually all parts of the company and in all levels of product capability. This trickle-down effect benefits the end-users of all products by providing superior performance and reliability.
Fujitsu has two major high performance computing product lines. The first product line is vector-parallel computers, the latest model of which is the VPP5000 Series.
The VPP5000 Series boasts record peak performance of 9.6 GFlops per processing element (PE) and 4.9 TFlops for a system with the maximum configuration of 512 PEs, which is available by special order. Powering the VPP5000 Series are high-performance, power-saving CMOS LSI chips manufactured using a 0.22-micron process that enables the integration of 33 million transistors on a single integrated circuit.
The VPP5000 Series embodies Fujitsu's concept of Fast, Flexible and Friendly high performance computing, which aims to address the increasing importance of total system performance, including areas such as application performance, flexibility in system operation, and ease of use.
The second HPC product line of Fujitsu consists of the powerful SPARC®/Solaris®-based PRIMEPOWER server lineup.
The PRIMEPOWER product lineup comprises two basic model ranges. The first is the PRIMEPOWER 1/200/400/600 range of stand-alone and rack-mounted servers. These dedicated servers provide the best in scalability and price performance from 1 to 16 processor systems. The PRIMEPOWER 800/100/2000 range of systems scale from 4 to 128 processors and offer partitioning and internal clustering solutions for the needs of server consolidation. As a result PRIMEPOWER offers an extremely flexible set of configuration solutions for in-office, inter-office and data center-based server installations.
Focused in the Server Consolidation, Data Warehousing and ASP markets, the high-end PRIMEPOWER 2000 is also eminently suitable for the requirements of large Corporate and Scientific application processing. The PRIMEPOWER 2000 is currently scalable to 128 processors in the SMP (Symmetrical Multi-Processing) configuration.
The PRIMEPOWER 2000 uses Fujitsu's own SPARC64 GP Processors together with other leading technologies such as the "world's best" cross bar switching to ensure maximum scalability and system resource utilization. The power of the SMP configuration can be dynamically reallocated allowing multiple applications to obtain resources they need when they need it.
The PRIMEPOWER 2000 is a powerful, 128processor capable server that can be deployed in stand-alone or multi-server clusters for high performance, availability and scalability.
Fujitsu's two high performance computing product lines are highly complementary to each other and deliver a total solution for research and development users.
Fujitsu is committed and will continue to develop total solutions for the HPC market to meet ever-expanding market requirements.
